Death Knell For ‘McManamania’Posted: March 24, 2008
Real Madrid have announced the end of ‘McManamania’, the official state of euphoria which was launched when Steve McManaman signed for the Spanish giants in 2000.
The announcement came after a survey showed that less than 2% of Real fans could actually remember that the former Liverpool midfielder had ever played for the club.
Any remaining street banners have been removed from the city and the official coconut-filled chocolate bars have been withdrawn from sale.
McManamania events co-ordinator Jose Garcia stoically told a press conference, ‘It is like killing a puppy who you had once been so proud of. After a while you realise it has problems in the head, so you put it in a sack of bricks and take it to the bridge. Life goes on.’
